Chinese automaker BYD introduced a technology that further advances electric car charging technology.
Blade Battery 2.0 in combination with FLASH chargers (1,500 kW) charges an electric car from 10% to 70% in just 5 minutes. From 10% to 97% in 9 minutes. Even at –30 °C it can reach 80% capacity in 12 minutes.
And it's not a prototype – BYD already operates more than 4,200 megawatt stations in China, aiming for 20,000 by the end of the year. In Europe it plans an expansion this year with 1,000 kW chargers.
For comparison, the fastest American stations have a maximum of 500 kW — a third of BYD's power. The USA has 230,000 charging points versus 13 million in China.
WSJ writes that such fast technology will work only with BYD chargers and batteries. Chinese electric cars will not reach the US market due to a 100% tariff.
But pressure on domestic manufacturers is rising – experts estimate that Western automakers will need 2–3 years to achieve comparable specifications. The race for the future of e‑mobility is currently being won by China.
