How are the political parties faring with environmental support?
The main political event of 2025 is here, so let's see how much the major political parties care about supporting a healthy environment. The organization united in the Green Circle association examined the election programmes in sections focused on environmental protection, climate and conditions for the functioning of civil society. How did it turn out?
According to the Green Circle report from September 2025, STAN and the Pirates perform best in the mentioned areas, as their programmes contain concrete proposals for landscape restoration, support for sustainable agriculture, development of renewable energy sources, and public involvement in decision‑making. In contrast, the Motorists movement and SPD either ignore environmental topics or propose measures that could have a negative impact on nature and climate.
The ANO party presents a mixed approach – some proposals are positive, others vague or with potential negative impact.
For example, ANO supports the construction of dams in the water management sector, while STAN advocates restoring the natural flow of rivers. In energy, ANO promises a wide range of measures but without a clear strategy. On climate policy, ANO, SPD and the Motorists reject European climate targets, whereas STAN and the Pirates support them and propose concrete steps to achieve them.
The SPOLU coalition (ODS, KDU‑ČSL, TOP 09) was evaluated mainly negatively due to vague formulations and the absence of concrete commitments in key areas. The SPOLU programme often lacks clear environmental goals and specific measures, making it difficult to assess their real impact. In some cases SPOLU avoids direct statements on ecological challenges, which, according to the Green Circle, indicates a low priority for these topics on their agenda.

The report also highlights differences in the approach to civil society. STAN and the Pirates support public and non‑profit organization involvement, whereas ANO and the Motorists propose limiting so‑called “political NGOs”. SPOLU does not address the support of civil society at all.
