Wind energy in 2025 reached a historic record – and China dominates like never before
A new BloombergNEF report shows that global wind turbine installations reached a record 169 GW in 2025 – 38% more than the previous year. It is the third consecutive year with a new high.
Mainland China, as the first market in the world, surpassed the 100 GW new capacity threshold in a single year. Chinese manufacturers took the top six spots in the global ranking – led by Goldwind (29.3 GW) and Envision (20.9 GW).
However, Chinese manufacturers are no longer targeting only the domestic market. Their overseas capacity grew eightfold year‑over‑year. Low production costs and fast deliveries are opening doors for them in Latin America, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.
India became the largest wind market outside China for the first time – ahead of the USA and Germany.
Denmark's Vestas remains the most diversified supplier (projects in 28 countries), but it fell to 7th place in the overall ranking – the first time outside the top 5 since 2013.
In the offshore segment, Siemens Energy's wind division led for the second consecutive year, just ahead of Goldwind. Overall, offshore wind experienced a tough year – after three years of growth it fell by a third to just 8.1 GW. The decline is due to project delays in China and France and political uncertainty in the USA, where activity temporarily stalled.
The numbers confirm that the energy transition is gaining momentum – and its focus is shifting markedly towards Asia.
